keeping warm

It’s a cold day today, but this trolley seems to have worked out a way of keeping warm as it carrying the embers from last might’s fire.

murder?

Is this the scene of a gross crime? The awkward angle that the victim lies in the water seems to imply that it was thrown in after the malicious act was done. And could that protruding saw blade have any relation to the act in question, and who is that mysterious character in the corner?

t'ai chi

Where do shopping trolleys come from? Are they made in the UK or are they imported? And if so, are their travels related to them trying to retrack their steps?

This trolley was practising Tai Chi this morning, which made me think how far away their point of origin could actually be?

cooling off

After an unusually warm day for this time of the year, it was perhaps no surprise to see this trolley taking a quick dip at the end of the afternoon. I was concerned that it could make the mistake of spending too much time in the water, in case it lead to immobility, as seems to happen so often with so many trolleys. In fact, there was no need to worry as upon my return I noticed that it had gone.

the finer detail

Another example of a trolley taking an interest in contemporary public art – this time closely examining every detail.

artistic

I have noticed that trolleys appear to be interested in graffiti art as I often see them in the vicinity of a tagged wall. Perhaps the style of writing and the colours used remind them of their previous lives when they were surrounded by so much advertising.

relax

When you have been on the go all day, sometimes it is nice to get out of the rain and put your feet up.

first steps

This is how it all begins. With nobody looking, a trolley will slowly sneak out of its parking area and make its way out of its confined area. Some supermarkets have become aware of this practice and have adopted the policy of chaining trolleys together overnight.

diving

What is this trolley looking for, I wonder? What could be under the water that could be of so much interest? Is it wearing a snorkel?

bus stop

Had this trolley just arrived, or was it instead waiting for the next bus out of town, perhaps to catch up with some friends some place else? Or, maybe it was interested in taking a closer look at one of those human-carrying motorised trolleys that drive around the town.

playtime

Uninhibited and away from public vision a trolley will happily play on its own for hours; however, as soon as it senses that it is being observed it will become motionless so as to not draw attention to itself. This was certainly the case in this example as, as soon as I approached, it refused to move for the whole of my stay.

lookout

I'm not sure if this one was on the lookout on behalf of other colleagues that were escaping from the supermarket car park, or whether it was on its way to freedom. It certainly seems to be planning its next move.

lean on me

It's good to have friends that you can call on. I caught this trolley having a natter with, I suppose, what actually might be a relation. They obviously had a lot to catch up on as they were together for a couple of days.

hello, do i know you?

Does this trolley recognise itself, or does it just see another trolley? Eitherway, it was certainly transfixed by its reflection, and wasn't moving anywhere. What are the chances of seeing an identical trolley carrying the same items?

looking for trouble

This rough looking customer looked up to no good, hanging around outside a padlocked building site. I don't know whether I disturbed it, but later when I checked to see if it was still there, it had gone. Had it scaled the fence, I wonder, or just moved on?

mugged

I helped this trolley back onto its castors, offering some comforting words and a cup of tea. I learnt that it had been assaulted and all its contents stolen. Despite my help, it preferred to be left alone, rather than take me up on my suggestion of a hot drink. I respected its wishes and went on my way glad to have helped, if only a little.

old friends

Discarded but not forgotten. Came across this trolley spending some quality time, lazing around with some of its previous passengers, chewing over old memories. How times have changed....

come play with me

The shopping trolley's desire to fit in with its surroundings can easily be seen here. Obviously in a playful mood, this trolley is imitating the distant rugby posts in an attempt to engage with the local children.

drunk

This poor fellow didn't make it home last night. Too much to drink at the local pub, I fear.

sunbathing

A beautiful spring morning, and who can blame this trolley for finding a secluded spot for a bit of sunbathing. With its back flap open, it looked so relaxed and content in the sunshine. I suspect, if the weather keeps up, there'll be many more sitings like this one.

litter picking

Still in France, I saw this trolley about to pick up some waste paper and so tried to take the opportunity to engage with it to ask about French attitudes towards the environment. My French is limited however, and I couldn't get anywhere. In fact I was ignored. How rude.

recycling

After my previous encounter I was glad to see this trolley doing its bit for the environment, albeit in Paris and not the UK. Perhaps the trolleys in France are simply more conscious of their responsibilities to the society they live in?

suspicious

What secrets is this trolley hiding and why is it concealing itself so late on a Sunday night? Although when I approached it didn't appear to be doing anything, I was aware that it wasn't relaxed but instead was poised for its next move. (Note the wheels still in straight formation).

it takes two to tangle

Found this pair having a night time play in the mud, away from public view. I left quietly so as not to disturb them.

a watery grave

It used to collect shopping. Now it collects rust. How long has this corroded trolley been in this position and what unfortunate set of circumstances led to its demise? A sad day.

submerged

How long can you hold your breath? Thirty seconds? Two minutes? This trolley remained underwater for the entire length of my visit - for at least five minutes, during which I saw no air bubbles rise to the surface. Perhaps they can breathe underwater as well as in air?
